About Us
W.S.P.E.R. exists to...
...counter burnout culture and practice a new way of being
...reconnect our people to ancestral & community wisdom
...break the patterns that fragment our movements.
Our work centers BIPOC, queer/trans/nonbinary, disabled, neurodivergent, and low (to-no) income voices.
We Spirit Project: Empowering Realities (W.S.P.E.R.) is a grassroots collective curating accessible, safe & intergenerational spaces, where community members, cultural workers, creatives, healers, and organizers come together for shared learning and social justice strategy. We build comprehensive, culturally competent workshops, skill-shares, storytelling opportunities, collective processing, strategy & action-planning spaces along with other offerings as community needs arise, and with BIPOC, queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, or low-income voices at the center.
Our program and offerings are held virtually for all and/or in-person across D.C., Maryland, and New York.
Our Approach
At the heart of our work is “A Collective Care Model”, our approach to community building & social change, rooted in care culture. Our model provides an alternative to traditional basebuilding rings, which often lead to burnout and extraction. At the center are the people most impacted and vulnerable, the Community Core, who are honored as sacred and protected. Around them, the roles of Community Connectors, Bridge Builders, Sharers, and Holders each reflect different capacities for support and responsibility.
